Souderton, PA – August 22, 2011 – AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation has introduced a new line of Hybrid Power Modules (HPM's) to its family of solid-state power amplifiers. These HPM's are small, lightweight and compact, yet deliver linear output powers approaching 5 watts across an instantaneous bandwidth of 4 - 18 GHz. They provide excellent gain flatness ,can withstand infinite output mismatch, and are available in various power and gain configurations.

In addition, AR can customize our HPM's to meet individual specifications where narrowband and/or higher power requirements are demanded. Both military and commercial solutions can be provided at a cost-effective price for applications that demand high-performance in a compact size. True hermetic connectorized or open pallet type custom designs, which can be integrated into higher order assemblies, can also be provided, giving alternate solutions for today's demanding applications.

Typical applications for these innovative HPMs include radar systems, ECM, ECCM, jammers, wireless communication, data links, drivers for microwave power modules, and more.

Only 0.8 - 18 GHz Dual Band Solid-State Amplifiers

The hottest news in town is not that we put two amplifiers in a single chassis, but for the first time you can go all the way from 0.8 to 18 GHz with the reliability of solid state.

Our Dual Band Amplifiers can be used for multiple applications because they are linear and extremely load tolerant.

With AR's Dual Band Amplifiers, you have freedom like never before. You pick the power from 5 to 80 watts. You pick the bandwidth from 0.8 to 8.0 GHz, 0.8 to 10.6 GHz or 0.8 to 18 GHz. We put it together for you in one package that costs less, weighs less, and takes less space than two separate amplifiers.

If you want to upgrade later, no problem. We make our Dual Band Amplifiers with built-in flexibility for increased power levels because your needs are constantly changing. Shouldn't your amplifiers change too?

New, Completely Automated Radiated Immunity Test System For MIL-STD 461 Testing Now Available From AR

AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation has introduced its latest automated system for conducting radiated susceptibility testing. The AS18027 AR System has been specifically designed to perform automated testing for MIL-STD 461 requirements. The system will produce fields up to 50V/m at 1 meter distance from 1-18 GHz.

The system is comprised of a variety of components including one of AR's new dual-band, solid state amplifiers; signal generation and control equipment. The equipment is housed in a compact, EMI-shielded rack designed to be kept inside the chamber, minimizing cable losses. Capabilities for safety interlock have been integrated into the AS18027 system allowing a single switch to be monitored and to disable all RF generation inside the chamber. Also included in the system are frequency matched and dedicated antennas and other auxiliary equipment. AR's SW1007 EMC test software is provided and allows for complete automation of the system.

This is just one example of AR's system capabilities. Whether you chose one of our standard test systems or have one built to your specifications, AR can deliver a solution that integrates all your testing needs.

The proliferation of electronic and wireless devices is creating a seemingly endless demand for power amplifiers with increased bandwidth and higher power. AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation has responded to the demand by creating new amplifiers and by redesigning several existing amplifiers.

AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation has redesigned several of its "S" Series amplifiers to extend the bandwidth from 18 GHz down to 4 GHz. The models previously went down to 6 GHz. These redesigned amplifiers are:

Model 5S4G18 (5 watts CW, 4 - 18 GHz) (formerly model 5S6G18A)

Model 10S4G18 (10 watts CW, 4 - 18 GHz) (formerly model 10S6G18A)

Model 20S4G18 (20 watts CW, 4 - 18 GHz) (formerly model 20S6G18)

AR Continues To Pack More Power Into Smaller, Compact "S" Series Amplifiers

AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation has already reduced the size of its "S" Series solid-state amplifiers, making them smaller, lighter, more compact & portable without losing any power. The smaller size makes them more energy-efficient and a better value.

Reducing the size while maintaining the power was a challenge; but now AR has added even more power to these smaller, more compact amplifiers. The S1G4 amplifiers cover the 0.8 - 4.2 GHz frequency range and now offer 20, 40, 80, 175, 350, 600, 900, and 1200-watt models.

Expandable Power
Many of AR's "S" Series amplifiers are designed so that when additional power is needed, you can add another amplifier, rather than having to toss out the old amp and start all over again with a higher power model. You can also use the amplifiers independently when higher power is not needed. AR calls this building block concept Subampability™ and it's another way that AR products deliver more value and cost-effectiveness to customers.

Model ATR26M6G-1 combines "bent element" approach with additional innovations

Souderton, PA &emdash; July 15, 2010 &emdash; AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation has unveiled a new antenna that represents another advance in antenna technology.

Model ATR26M6G-1 (26 MHZ – 6 GHz / 5,000 watts) is a wide band, high gain antenna with a proprietary design that combines AR's "bent element" approach with additional innovations. The result is an extremely versatile antenna that provides a size reduction of approximately 75% without sacrificing key electrical performance such as gain and bandwidth. The antenna's size and performance make it uniquely suited for use in both traditional applications and in new compact chambers.

The ATR26M6G-1 features a reduced profile and extremely low VSWR, making it an excellent choice for high-field-strength immunity testing. The size reduction minimizes field loss that can result from "room loading." The broad frequency range addresses existing RF susceptibility requirements as well as anticipated future developments and is matched to work with AR's "W," "S" and "A" Series RF power amplifiers. The robust design can accommodate the high power levels necessary to generate significant E-fields.

The ATR26M6G-1, which is tough and durable enough to withstand the rigors of outdoor use, can also be calibrated for RF emissions testing.

Variable Rate Impulse Generator Provides Exceptional Versatility
AR's Model 533X-11M (10 kHz - 1 GHz) variable repetition rate impulse generator is a calibrated broadband signal source that is used primarily as a calibrator when performing substitution type interference measurements. It has a variable pulse repetition rate from 50 Hz-5 MHz or it may be triggered by the power line frequency, an external trigger source or manually. The availability of these various operating modes is what makes Model 533X- 11M so much more versatile than other impulse generators. The unit is used as a calibrated broadband signal source; a calibrator for substitution type broadband interface measurements; receiver bandwidth measurement; and for rapid gain checking of tuners.

Leak Detector System Effectively Tests Shielded Enclosures
Leak Detector Model CL-105/CL-106 tests shielded enclosures at their most likely points of degradation - the seams, doors, and filter connections. The System consists of a transmitter, receiver, antenna probe, a flex antenna extension, headphones, and a durable carrying case. The high sensitivity of the receiver enables it to meet the most rigid MIL standards for shielded room acceptance. The system is built to withstand even the most adverse conditions. It is designed to allow replacement of the antenna probe shield when worn, a feature that can save money for users down the line.

Radio Noise Meter Measures Broadcase Band EMI Pollution For The Power Industry
Model NM-21FFT Radio Noise Meter is extremely sensitive and simple to operate. The unit operates at one fixed frequency, either 834 kHz or 1000 kHz. It can be special ordered with a fixed frequency anywhere in the 600 - 1500 kHz range. The absence of broad frequency coverage eliminates all tuning and calibration requirements. It also enables the circuitry to be designed for high image rejection, high IF rejection, low spurious response, and high overall accuracy. The unit is hand-portable, withstands rough field use, and has low (5 watt) power consumption.

The 533X-11M, CL-105/CL-106, and NM-21FFT are manufactured by AR Receiver Systems and sold through AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation.

New innovations at AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation are enabling the company to produce smaller, more compact amplifiers with just as much power as the older, larger models.

The new "A" Series amplifiers, for example, are 25% -- 50% smaller than previous models, yet the new size does not mean a reduction in power. These newer, smaller models fit easily into a control room; and because of the new design, they are more efficient, using less energy than other amplifiers. The smaller, more efficient design also results in an increased performance to price ratio. In other words you get more for your money.

Souderton, PA - April 28, 2009 - AR , a recognized leader for testing and communications solutions in the worlds of EMC, military, wireless, and beyond, is celebrating a milestone this year. 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of the international company that began in the basement of one of its founder’s homes.

Donald “Shep” Shepherd, one of the three men who founded the company and the current chairman of AR, has said “We started the company in my basement because the only place we could go from there was up.” But even the founders had no idea just how far up the company would go.

From working in Shep’s cellar, and driving around their only sample amplifier in the trunk of Shep’s car, the little amplifier business now encompasses four companies, employs over 200 people, and after 40 years continues to lead the industry with innovative products and a global support system that is second to none.

“AR began when we designed an amplifier for test applications,” Shep explains. “That amplifier solved some problems that testers were experiencing, and it made some tests easier to conduct. That’s what we’ve been doing ever since: solving problems and making testing easier.”

Formerly known as AR Worldwide, AR now consists of a family of companies: AR RF Microwave Instrumentation, AR Modular RF, AR Receiver Systems, and AR Europe. These companies create and market everything from power amplifiers, antennas, TWT amplifiers, complete test systems, probes, monitors, software and receivers to amplifier modules that can be customized to meet the toughest specs.

Shep sums it up like this: “With the combined resources of all the AR companies, we simply have more options, more solutions, and more innovations. Our customers get the benefit of it all when they connect with any AR company. We’re one company with infinite solutions. And after 40 years, we’re only just beginning.”

Application Note #49

How much output voltage, current and power can RF amplifiers provide? This question is often asked by novice test engineers as well as seasoned RF professionals. Depending on the application, there is often an underlying desire to maximize one of the three parameters; power, voltage or current. While one would think that a simple application of Ohm's law is called for, this would only apply given ideal conditions, such as when an RF amplifier with a typical 50 Ω output resistance is driving a 50 Ω load. In this rare case where the load impedance perfectly matches the amplifier output impedance, the power delivered to the load is simply the rated power of the amplifier. There is absolutely no reflected power and thus, there is no need to limit or control the gain of the amplifier to protect it from excessive reflected power.
